Bitdefender is among the top antivirus scanners available for Mac, with consistently excellent rates of malware detection and a variety of other useful security features. However, it’s not without flaws.

The default interface of the suite is simple to navigate and groups feature in three categories: Privacy privacy, Utilities, and Protection. The Protection tab is mostly dedicated to the features you’d expect from any antivirus program, like real-time scanning, firewall monitoring and countermeasures against ransomware. The Privacy tab offers suggestions on how to remain safe on the internet, such as a secure web browser that runs websites inside a sandbox in order to prevent malware from infecting the normal browser. The Utilities tab is about optimization tools and an application that shreds files with exclusive algorithms which render them unrecoverable when deleted.

Other features are included with premium plans, including an effective password manager and a solution called Anti-Tracker that can stop excessive tracking carried out by many websites. The program also comes with an vulnerability scan that can detect outdated apps, weak passwords, and Windows updates that haven’t yet been applied. It also provides a quick custom scan which only takes five minutes, much faster than other competitors such as Norton and TotalAV.

The only drawback of the app is that it takes a long time to install which may be frustrating to users who are eager to get started. The «Reveal in the Finder» feature of the app isn’t functional. This is a bizarre omission from an antivirus app that competes against rival solutions that accomplish the same thing with just a few simple clicks.
